second check-up: fetal medicine & gyneacology centre in ttdi (dr yap)

ok so we went for our 2nd check-up (at 12weeks) wt dr yap (lady dr) of fmgc (http://www.fmgc.com.my/) in ttdi at the recommendation of a friend whose wife recently delivered a baby girl. another colleague also recommended this clinic (but with another dr). its a small clinic with 3 consultants: dr yap, dr raman & dr patrick. they also do deliveries (vaginal & c-sect) but in pantai medical in bangsar.

i was very pleased with this dr as she explained everything carefully & patiently. we did the ultrasound scan & saw that the baby had one hand on his/her forehead (like pening kepala liedat hehehe --what worries trouble the little tyke i dunno). the dr even noted that the baby did not have a flat nose --hahaha. funny eh? lucky us. i was also very happy that i got a print-out of the scan --so we have our first shot of baby!!

seeing as i'm already 30, dr yap asked if we wanted to have a blood test to detect the risk of down syndrome in the baby. an optional blood test she said. and so we opted to take it. however, as i'm oft to do, i forgot to ask how much it would cost first. tsk tsk. so, come to payment time: the bill was a whopping rm700!!

consultation & scanning rm80
blood test rm500
3 supplements rm120

ok lah. the blood test was the killer. the poor husband had to whip out his credit card for this cos i only prepared rm300 for the check-up.
however, bcos im so happy with dr yap, we're gonna continue seeing her. plus of course, ttdi is so close to home --so its very convenient. plus everyone in the clinic were really nice unlike in big hospitals where they can be very abrupt & unfeeling. plus its a small intimate clinic, so my fears of hidden charges are somewhat abated (i have this feeling that bigger hospitals will always charge for everything. for example, dsara specialist charged me registration fees whilst this clinic didnt. i mean ok lah it was a nominal rm10-rm15, i forget, but its the little little things that count cos its the little little things that add up izenit). of course, we're gonna have to go to a hospital for the delivery anyways i.e. pantai medical but i'm quite happy that my next few monthly check-ups will be in a place where im comfortable with.
my next check-up will be in early february at 16 weeks. i can look forward to another blood test --this time to check on me (not the baby) i.e. glucose, hiv, hepatitis, rubella etc. hope it wont cost a bomb this time around. apparently by the 4 month, they can already tell the gender of the baby. im still unsure whether i want to know. i sort of want it to be a surprise but the husband says its practical to know lah. something about him wanting to buy airplanes to hang above the baby if its a boy. tsk tsk. i dont have a problem not knowing. i mean instead of blue or pink, theres always yellow & cream. besides, i dont have a problem with girls in blue or boys in pink.
but it would be nice to know also lah. hehe. can i NOT tell anyone else the gender of the baby? maybe just keep it between me & the husband? & the baby of course haha. but i know my significant other well, he can't keep anything like this away from him immediate family. oh well.
