Hello.

It’s been some time. Quite a long some time since I’ve posted anything here.

I have 2 blogs, and the initial intention was to keep family-type entries separate from other-type entries. In hindsight (and with much confusion as to which blog should be updated, when), there’s really no point in having 2 blogs since life, is life, and everything is intermeshed into one anyhow. So, I’m probably just updating one blog from hereon (and will try to maintain the other, just so past entries are not lost).

So. Some updates since my last entry.

Ethan is now 5yo and attending year 1 of kindergarten in a nearby, rather well-known pre-school franchise, which has good school amenities (as opposed to other pre-schools in the same fee range). Lots of Chinese classmates, with a smattering of Indians and Malays. So he sounds a lot Chinese. I think it’s an alright mix. He started play school when he was 4yo (in 2012) and had an Indian teacher who was lovely. This year, we chose a Chinese teacher for him just to give him a “rounded education”. Perhaps next year, when he’s 6yo, we’ll choose a Malay teacher to prepare him for primary school. He’s doing well and it quite a talkative little boy. Loves everything American Idol (especially Ryan Seacrest, microphones, speakers & stages). At some point, he was a big Tom Jones fan and was able to perform a couple songs (with much panache!) Ethan is still not much of an eater. He doesn’t take anything sweet (other than classic donuts which he calls snow donuts or our make-do, snow toast which he has at home). He is a big fan of spaghetti & pepperoni pizza. Quite the daredevil when it comes to water parks. Hates alligators. He can recite the Our Father, Hail Mary & Glory Be with minimal mistakes – and says his nightly prayers to ward away “bad dreams”. Pretty protective over his little sister but lately has started defending himself as she’s always trying to irritate him.

Ava is now 2yo and is a real mummy’s girl. She’s super touchy-feely and loves to touch my arms while sucking her 2 fingers –her comfort when she’s feeling sleepy. She’s doing great development-wise, excellent motor skills, loves to climb, run, balance, do the downward-facing dog pose, is able to speak & converse pretty well. Oh yes, she can tell jokes. She loves chocolates & sweet drinks, cakes, sweets and is basically like any typical kid who stuff their faces with junk until stopped. Generally, shes got no problems with eating but do have a preference for the junk over the nutritious. Still, shes game for trying out new things (plain yoghurt with honey, all sorts of fruits & juices). She’s quite possessive over me, and cannot see me sitting with daddy or big brother Ethan. She swings between being a princess (loves purple & pink, glitter etc) and being a tomboy (loves jeans, shorts). Ava’s relationship with her father is somewhat funny with her always insisting “I love mummy”, even if the father says “But I love you Ava!”. Like Ethan, Ava too sleeps through the night. Unlike her brother, she never took to the pacifier much, preferring instead her own fingers. Often times, her hands smell icky due to her sucking but I love it. It’s amazing how the horrid smells your own child emits/creates is something that you revel in (yes including their morning breath).

Both the kids get along pretty well with each other. Thanks to Ethan who just loves his sister and wouldn’t allow us to be too hard on her, even if shes naughty and hes getting bullied.

So now we get to the latest news.

We’re expecting Baby No. 3. I am about 14 weeks and am due on 6 Apr 2014 (based on LMP) OR 16 weeks and due on 29 Mar 2014 (based on baby’s development). In short, I’m past my 1st trimester and all the inherent challenges therein. We were definitely trying for a 3rd child, my being 36 this year and wanting to add on to the brood. So we weren’t surprised when the home kit tested positive (well I wasn’t; the husband, on the other hand, fell back on his default reaction: skepticism. tsk tsk). Given my history with early miscarriages, we went full out on the pregnancy support (as prescribed by the gynea) to ensure that the pregnancy is, well, supported. So far so good. 1st trimester has come and gone and I’m off the support. Baby is doing good and hopefully will continue to be blessed and do well till delivery. We’ll be able to tell the gender at the next check-up (which is about 2 weeks away). ~Let baby be healthy and strong~

Ethan seems to be doing ok with the news and often kisses my tummy saying “Hello Baby!”. However, apparently, he did mention to his cousin “My mummy is having another baby. She doesn’t love me anymore.”

Ava, hmm, I’m not too sure. I don’t think she understand what this means. But when you lay it out clearly, she seems to know how it will affect her. Example:

Me: Ava, you’re gonna have a baby soon! You’re gonna be a “Kakak”.
Ava: Noooo… I not big! I baby!

Plus, everyone keeps talking to me about the middle child syndrome. Sigh. I hope she doesn’t have too hard a time. Ethan had it a bit tough when Ava was born, and he wasn’t even the clingy type. Ava on the other hand, is very attached to me and that seems to have escalated lately (perhaps due to Baby No. 3 coming).

Oh well. Let’s just hope everything and everyone will be ok.

So, there’s my news. Will hopefully be able to post new entries every now and again. Perhaps not as often as before, when I used to have more downtime than my present company. Till then.

32 weeks... 8 more weeks to go

cant believe i'm already 32 weeks.

really really cannot believe i still have 8 weeks to go. i'm already feeling unable to cope with the aches & pains. most days i dont feel like coming into the office. so different than my first pregnancy. i dont feel like driving either but i have to.

i'm trying as much as possible to walk about for some exercise. i spent 4 hours walking in ikea this week & came out poorer as well. somehow it's more bearable walking in a mall than walking around a park. at least i get to finish up my shopping for baby.

at our last check up 2 weeks ago, baby looks good. we're now going for check-ups fortnightly, so, we're due for one tomorrow. i wonder what we'll discover this time? doctor says she "looks" like shes got some curls. no surprise there, cos ethan's got wavy hair too. let's see if we can see her lashes.

at my last check-up i was already 59.3kg which was lighter than i expected. thats about 11kg heavier than my pre-pregnancy weight. with ethan, i gained 18.5kg by the time i delivered. which means, i have 7kg more to go. as much as i dont want to gain so much weight, i do want the baby to.

as i've probably mentioned in previous entries, i cant fit into my clothes & SHOULD buy more but it's just another 2 months & i feel so sayang to have to buy expensive maternity clothes which i wont wear again (unless we're having a 3rd child which isnt a sure thing yet :p) & i cant seem to get away with wearing normal clothes (as with ethan) cos i'm bigger.

truthfully, i dont think i'm that big. but then the comments i get from friends indicate the contrary. guess i'm in denial. my belly button is disgustingly an outie now. yuck. not is it just a yuck, it's also an ouch. so i wear undies all the way up to tuck in the navel for modesty's sake and for comfort too (friction against my tops are quite painful). a male colleague of mine commented on my outie last week, saying that i'm carrying a boy because the protruding navel is actually baby's penis. ada kah patut...

i've bought most of the essential baby stuff during ethan's time. this time around, i'm just shopping for the disposable & semi-disposable items (clothes). next month's task is to give all playpens, mattresses, pillows, bed linens etc a good wash and dry in the sun.

however, i have a moses basket which doesnt have a mattress/padding, so i'm thinking of buying a kekabu mattress for it. but since kekabu is usually quite natural i.e. it's not processed for hygiene, i'm not sure if it's safe for baby? but then again, as a friend pointed out to me "dulu-dulu pun kita pakai kekabu pillows/mattresses to sleep"... :D let me read up on it some more...

having had a boy for almost 3 years now & learning to appreciate fashion for the masculine gender, it's hard for me to deal with the sheer number of choice for girls hehehe. so i havent bought much in the way of clothes for her. only rompers which are quite unisex looking, arent they? in my mind, i envision my daughter to be vogue instead of girly. in fact, i envision both my kids to be quite vogue hehehe... now let's just hope mummy's got the financials to dress them both as such :)

little baby's check-up update

saturday’s check-up went wonderfully well!

we can see the arms and legs now –looks more like a baby than just a lump. we even saw baby’s arms move from head to knee and doctor re-played it for our viewing pleasure :). ahh… the wonders of today’s technology!

heartbeat sounds faster and stronger. thank God.

baby is now 3.8cm long.

love you little one!

belated good news

this was an entry that i drafted earlier:

i am pregnant (again) :-)

weight : 47kg
vital stats : malas lah
hair : short & colored
LMP : 23 to 28 feb 09
EDD : 30 nov 09 (oooh, confinement in dec09 & jan10)
physical symptoms : bloated tummy, sore boobs, constipation (a real killer this)

yes we are expecting baby no. 2. etha*n is only 8.5mths old. when i’m due to deliver in late november, etha*n would be 16months old i.e. hes 16 months older to his little sibling.
was it planned or was it oops? well, that’s a question to answer. a couple of months after etha*n, i was already badgering for another. why? because i felt etha*n was growing up too fast & i started feeling like oh-how-nice-to-have-another-soon. but i was also alternating with feelings of guilt towards etha*n. i just felt that i should spend more time with him before we have a 2nd child. but of course, seeing as i’m already in my 30s, its not like i can delay it for too long. so yeah, we wanted to have the 2nd one soon after etha*n but we’re both worried that etha*n didn’t have enough time with us. which is a stupid thing really. theres more than enough love to go around mah. the husband even said: make sure we treat them equally ok! yes sirree…

my period is very on the dot so when i was late by just a day, i had already rushed to get the pregnancy home test kit & tested myself immediately. the husband as usual, was very cynical, just like the first time. i dunno why he couldn’t understand that for a person who is hardly ever late, being late is an indicator of something, anything. this is called, knowing thine own body well. harumppff.

so, i took the test & it was positive. tadaaa…

i gotta take a picture of my tummy albeit a bit stretch-marky.

this time around, my mood swings are really bad. i am so short tempered and bitchy –it’s not funny at all. i don’t know whether its ONLY because of the pregnancy or could it be because i’m cranky for not having etha*n with me and because i’m tired from having to drive the Kepong-PJ-Puchong-KL-Kepong route everyday? i wonder if it’s a girl? my SIL told me that if i was in a mellow mood for my first pregnancy & i had a boy, then if i’m not in a mellow mood in the 2nd pregnancy then i might be having a girl? ada logic kah? whatever lah.
right now, i just feel so tired & moody & short-tempered. the husband is not making things easy either cos he doesn’t seem as attentive as with the first pregnancy. i think some men look at it as “well she went through the first one, surely she can do this on her own now”. and yes, i can. but its just nice to have someone to lean on, to listen to my list of complaints (oh im tired/my boobs hurt/i feel so weepy). also, the thing that men should realize is this: just because we’ve gone through it before doesn’t make the next time easier especially as we have to deal with this pregnancy & all its many joys together WITH having to deal with the first 1 or 2 or 3 children isn’t it. have a heart men!! & more importantly, have a head!!

i’m only 5 weeks pregnant now. we’ve only told a handful of people because of the first-trimester-higher-risk thingy but that has slowly ballooned to more people. i don’t really want to treat it like a state secret lah & as it is i don’t feel right if i denied it. it is good news & he/she is a gift of God so i should be sharing my good news isn’t it? so yeah, i’ve decided to post this entry anyways. but maybe AFTER my check-up this weekend yer.

baby nursery (or more like "babys corner in parents' room")
i am happy to announce that we have received and assembled the baby cot yippeeyaaiyeiiyahuu. although its a bit chipped but im too lazy to ask for a refund or to make a complaint about it. just a little chip. so i'm gonna do a bit of DIY and use my clear nail polish to varnish it a bit hehe.

7month check-up (29weeks)
we went for a check-up last weekend and i am also happy to announce that Blub is now 1.4kg (the check-up before this he was only 780g). however, i am unhappy to announce that i am now 57.9kg (i gained 4.4kg). gilers ke apa. i feel so fat. although i'm not. my tummy is so out there. my dresses are now hiking up. macam mini skirt plaks. the doctor did warn me that mothers tend to gain the most weight in their 3rd trimester. errkk!! i'm sorry but i'm vain ok. & it appears that i am also fickle. i worry that i'm not gaining enough weight but when the scales actually confirm that i have, i worry too. ok enough about vanity issues.

Blub has eyelashes --muahahahaha... so geli my hati when the doctor said "ahh, & here are his lashes." i so did not expect it. i mean it never crossed my mind lah right to see eyelashes. usually its like "ah ok here are the legs, all 3 of them" or "see heres the beating heart". quite funny also my gynea. with regards to the lashes she also added "ahh, must follow the dad." & i was like "ehhh??? whats wrong with my lashes??" i mean hey, even if Blub inherits mine, he can always get lash extensions just like i did for my wedding. mwhehehehe. then we can bond.

preparing for baby
we're supposed to start attending ante-natal classes now. however the timing clashes with the husband's work-hours. so how ah? hmm...

this weekend we are going shopping for a stroller & rocking chair (& some bedsheets too... maybe some more bottles).

my friend says shes gonna get me one of those baby slings. yippee.

i've been reading some on cloth diapers (as opposed to disposable diapers or the traditional napkins). wonder if they're easier and more worth it to buy. or i could just stick with disposable diapers.

weight gain
i think i'm gonna be big. its cos im constantly hungry now. how dis?? i should stock-up on fruits & vegetables instead of cheezels hor? & i should opt for chicken hor fun soup instead of mee curry. heres a chronology of my weight gain:

prepregnancy - 45 kg
2nd month - 46 kg
3rd month - 48 kg
4th month - 48.5 kg
5th month - 50.4 kg
6th month - 53.5 kg
7th month - 57.9 kg
8th month - est. 62 kg (actual 59.9 kg @ 6weeks to edd)
9th month - est. 66 kg (actual 61.9 kg @ 4weeks to edd)
at delivery - 63.5 kg

ohmygoodnessie... by the end of this pregnancy, i might have gained approximately 20kg from my pre-Blub weight. i cant even take the current weight --my backaches are a real killer. another 2.5months to go. how lah dis? by the way i just ordered a 1kg blueberry cheesecake with oreo base just for me & the husband. methinks me is gonna be beeeeg!! the boobs are.

ok im depressed now.

EXPECTANT MOTHER'S PRAYER

Dear Lord,
You have blessed me with the gift of life,
& now a tiny baby is growing inside of me.
Help me do the right things
so that my baby will develop properly.
Help me to eat the right foods
so that my baby will have the best nourishment possible.
Help me to relax & stay calm
even when my baby is kicking & turning.
This pregnancy is a miracle
that I never want to take for granted, Lord.
I promise You that I will always cherish this little soul
that is today, tomorrow & forever
a part of me.
Amen.

pregnancy updates

we’re due for a check-up this weekend. feeling very excited. supposed to be able to tell the gender by now. at the last check-up, we were pleasantly surprised to see the baby’s hand placed on the forehead. makes the baby so… real. wonder what we’ll see this time. maybe the baby’s hands will be placed at the hips like a ma’am (if it’s a girl) or a boss (if it’s a boy). sorry ah, sexist a bit. bosses can be women too izenit.

we’re 15 weeks + 2 days today & I’m into my 2nd trimester now. thank you for your prayers that we get through the 1st trimester safely. thank you God for this blessing in me. baby don’t go away –hope you continue to grow healthy & strong. take it easy on the kicks & punches later ya. have pity on your mama.

i don’t know how other people do it. especially first time moms. this conscientious ability to do the recommended things during pregnancy like writing a journal of their journey through the 9 months, like thinking good thoughts, like listening to classical music for the baby, exercising regularly, eating good food, watching non-scary movies.

I

have

NOT.

- i started this blog thinking that it would be nice to document my journey as a pre-mom &later, as a mom lah right. but look at just how regular I’ve been at updating haha.

- i bitch. a lot. in fact, a lot MORE than before I was pregnant. I bitch about other mothers & other kids. after my bitching session, I’m wracked with guilt thinking that what goes around comes around & I’ll be a worse mother & have a more difficult time disciplining my kids than all these other people I’m bitching about. sighhh… I have to STOP.

- instead of classical music, i listen to the radio. dengar lagu umbrella by rihanna. can you believe it?? sighhh… i plan to buy mozart (supposed to be good for kiddos) & listen to it in the car (oh so bosannnnnnnn… how lah to get through traffic listening to mozart??). unfortunately, i have no cd player in the car hehehe… i wonder if they sell mozart in cassettes still.

- i had no exercise for the 1st trimester. ever since i broached the 2nd trimester, i’ve only gone for swimming 2-3 times. sighhh… malas nyers. i walk from the car park to the office also i’m huffing & puffing now. i try, i do, but someone please kick me in the ass so i get a start on it.

- i still eat maggi mee. not as much as i used to but i still do it maybe once a week. hardly eat any fruits although we got a whole watermelon and a box of mandarin oranges last night. so far, so good. i should drink milk more but i haven’t been –well initially due to the morning sickness but now i should be able to start again.

- i have always liked watching scary horror movies but more so now. they were showing emily rose on astro summore last week. dammnnn. i was told that pregnant women shouldn’t. i suppose you shouldn’t scare the baby right. sighhh… but i don’t feel like watching soppy love stories. maybe i can watch cartoons. ughh!! ice age not too bad lah. the emperor’s new groove also not too bad. at the moment i’m on a "the charmed ones" marathon. i wonder if that means babies can come out as witches if the mother is not a witch (but just a bitch)?

ok so here are the updates in haphazard order:

1. morning sickness / nausea gone

2. itchy tummy back again. my night routine is to rub lavish amounts of cocoa butter on my tummy. however, i’m still as lazy as before if not more; other parts of my body is dry. my legs, my shoulders, my arms, my wrists, my face. sume lah.

3. tummy is now hard. before this it was big but soft –probably due to fatty tissues & bloatedness more than being preggers.

4. boobs are super-huge. my koligs notice it too. & that’s the adjective of choice: HUGE. i had to shop for new bras.

5. clothes are all tight. my growth rate is very rapid. what was loose on me 2 sundays ago, was already snug last sunday and will probably be super-tight this coming sunday.
my weight at last check i.e. this morning came in at 49kg.

6. i get headaches more frequently. i used to be quite immune to headaches in hot weather but no longer.

7. i still have constipation. i now have a phobia for passing motion. cos it’s hard & it takes forever & it hurts & sometimes i bleed. more fibre for me i know i know.

8. i gots the mother of all backaches. so i use yoko yoko quite freely. i wonder if it’s ok for me to use it. must check with my doctor.

9. mood swings are ok but i’ve been rather garang at work in the last 2 days but that could be because i have to deal with idiots and not so much because i’m hormonal.

10. relationship with the husband is great. we’re so lovey dovey & touchy feely its sickening. well, sickening to other people lah but not to us.

11. nesting tendencies nil. in fact i’ve been rather lazy. so my house is not spick&span tenjewberrymuds. lucky for me the husband is an angel & has been doing quite a bit in terms of laundry & washing the dishes etc. i still prefer to do the sweeping & wiping myself.

12. physical – i’m walking with a bit of a waddle now. you think its due to the preggersness or is it still too early & it’s just me being drama? i cant bend down gracefully anymore. i bend down like an old woman. if i have to pick something up off the floor i have to place my feet apart for balance & bend at my knees (instead of bending at the waist) with my butt in the air. i also can’t bend at the waist because that means i put pressure on my tummy & makes it difficult to breathe.

so theres the updates. now, please again pray for me & the little kiddo that we pass through the 2nd trimester ok. can’t wait for my next check-up.

symptoms, hospitals

no morning sickness. rashes on the very bloated tummy. sore boobies. constipation. mood swings. intermittent temperature (sometimes hot, sometimes cold). mouth ulcers-sore throat-tonsilitis-cough-runny nose.

i already look pregnant (due to the bloatedness which is due to the constipation). according to my ILs, i'm already losing my waist (rear-view). my sister made me take off my navel ring cos she said nanti bacteria enter my navel.

i got up at 3am this morning due to discomfort (tummy itch & blocked nose). i got out of bed & was opening the bedroom door when the husband called out my name & i nearly jumped out of my skin. didnt think you were awake haha. terkejuts.

i was heading for the first aid bag in the kitchen where i knew i had a bottle of minyak cap kapak. i know you hate the stuff sweetheart but the itch was really unbearable. i should've taken up your cousin's offer for the calamine lotion last night hor? anyways, dousing it all over my tummy rash helped some. the blocked nose was something else altogether though.

since i cant take coffee (lest i want an energy bunny) & since i have been having these mouth ulcers-sore throat-tonsilitis-cough issues, my daily hot drink has been a concoction of lime juice & honey (yummy).

i havent had any cravings yet. i havent lost my appetite either. i'm eating normally: breakfast, lunch & dinner. i try not to carry anything heavy, including my laptop. i've started taking my multivits-cum-folic acid capsules. they look so pink.

im now researching on hospitals. i have so far shortlisted 4:

i) damansara specialist center
- the closest to us
- i've been recommended to go to dr guna or dr siva
- rm3.3k for normal birth, rm9.5k for a caesaerian

ii) sjmc
- i have many friends who've delivered their children here
- my SIL will also be delivering her daughter here in jan08
- i know of dr siti & dr delaila
- but i hear the waiting period during check-ups is horrendous
- a bit far izenit

iii) sunway medical center
- a friend recommended her gynea dr noraini
- my sister has actually been to this dr for a normal gynea check-up
- also far but at least its closer to my sister in puchong

iv) assunta hospital
- the husband has his heart set on assunta cos this was where he was born
- they've refurbished the place but i dont know of any recommended gyneas
- its 5mins from my office

i feel nauseous sometimes & to be prepared, i have ample supply of sweets as well as 2 plastic bags (for barfing) in the car. at the moment, im feeling sick as a dog due to the cold & cough. maybe i should head home.

my little one, you must really want a "warm" & welcoming home for the next 9mths. so ok, i'll deal with this heat-y body. but be healthy baby.

i am pregnant

yes i am.

menstruation-wise, i am exactly 7 days late today. 5 days into this bodily-cycle tardiness, i decided to take a home pregnancy test which turned out positive before i could even say "baby". of course, the husband & i thought that maybe it was faulty. so the next day, i tried out another test of a different brand. this time i did it in the little girls' room at work. positive again. later that night, we went to a 24-hour clinic to doubly-confirm my situation. positive yet again.

so, if theres any doubt, its thoroughly squashed now.

the GP told me that i was 3 weeks + 6 days pregnant last night (therefore 4 weeks today) & im due on 31 july 2oo8. but i took one of the many pregnancy calculator you can find over the 'net & it says im 4 weeks + 1 day pregnant today and my due delivery date 19 july 2008. i think the best thing for me to do is to go visit a proper gynea.

it hasnt really sunk in yet. probably because i've been so busy at work so i've not really thought about it. the physical symptoms are just like pms, its true. sore breasts, bloated tummy, fatigue.

i'm happy to be pregnant, yes thats true. my first reaction though was one of relief. haha. i've always had this fear that i was not able to conceive. so, i'm relieved that all my parts are in working condition. im also a bit scared & nervous. cos hey, something is happening to my body that has never happened to me ever before right.

whatever i'm feeling, this i do know, that my love for this child is in the essence of my very being.

i hope you'll grow healthy & strong baby. i love you.
